If you locate the Ring device where the old doorbell button is located, you can remove the button and connect the two wires to the Ring. This will keep the battery charged, and it will also allow the Ring to operate the old doorbell. I have had mine installed this way for 3 years, and I have never needed to charge the Ring battery.
Note that you do not need to turn off the power to connect the low voltage button wires.
