Underground electric cables weren't a thing in New England. All electric cables were on poles at the edge of the streets. It's really not an issue. It's not attractive, but it's also not an issue.
The only time it IS an issue, is if a storm blows the line down. Then it can be hazardous, because now you have live wires whipping back and forth on the ground until someone turns off the juice. But if the downed lines don't reach your property, the hazard isn't to you anyway. When a tornado rips a power line off the pole in the middle of a main road and the line is slithering back and forth across the road, THEN it's a big huge deal.
