I was watching the Golf Channel this morning and they were talking about the possibility of the 30th ranked player winning the FedEx Cup and becoming the Tour Champion. In theory, Ricky Fowler or Tom Hoge (currently ranked 49 and 48) could win the Tour Championship if they qualify this weekend. That doesn't make sense.
Right now, Scottie has 5,456 points while Ricky has 1,032 points and Hoge has 1042 points.
They agreed that the system is flawed and one of them suggested that at the end of the Tour Championship, the top four players (based on season long points) should play a 36 hole match play (it could also be an 18 hole stroke play) the following day or week to see who wins the FedEx Cup.
That way, the winner would be one of the top four players for the entire season - not just someone who gets hot in the last two rounds of the last tournament.
