Florida is the lightning capital of the world. Have you tried a thunder shirt? It is a vest worn and it applies gentle pressure similar to a hug. That might help. Thunderstorms can pop up at any time of the day. Fortunately my dog has never been bothered by them perhaps because she has lived here for her entire life. Good luck.
