I think it would be a little daunting to be the person working in the little room, staring at 200 holes.
To make life easier for them, I also fold an index card in half so it stands up. I write on it, “please hold mail until…..”
It seems to work well for both of us.
This year is different. We are snowbirds, have been forwarding our mail for years, using the USPS website. This year, said I had to physically appear at a post office with government ID (I think it's a new ICE regulation). So I show up, with my passport, which has no address, and my Florida driver's license (which of course has my Florida address). Insufficient. Need a deed or a lease to prove I live at the address I am trying to forward mail to. I was able to pull up the County Auditor site and show my name with address. What a hassle. And I know many seniors who would not know how to do this. I think it's likely I will have to do the same thing from Florida when we are ready to return. Only in The Villages it will likely mean driving to post office, waiting in line, etc. Another customer at the post office here was wondering what she would do - her name not on the lease.
