To put it in perspective, in 1900 the population of Europe, the US and Canada combine was about 30% of the world's population. Today, even adding in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan it is only 20%. By the year 2050 it will be down to 12% or less.

China will by then be a part of the developed world, but its population is entering a period of decline because of the one child per household law. Today 9 out of 10 children under the age of 15 live in underdeveloped countries – primarily in SE Asia, the Middle East and Africa. The impact of population shrinkage is starting to show up everywhere in the developed world. Birth rates are well below those needed to sustain the population. Japan, South Korea and most of Europe are in a decline that cannot be checked. The US is approaching that point. One of the underreported stories in this country is the decline in elementary middle and high school enrollment in many parts of this country including parts of Florida.

Our country is growing older. The baby-boom generation is entering retirement and we lack the trained people to replace them. If we do not have these people come into this country, who will do the following: (1) Maintain our lawns and shrubs? (2) harvest our crops? (3) work in the meat and chicken packing plants? (4) change our diapers in the nursing homes? (5) work in the construction trades and so on. We need these people every bit as they need us. We need to work out a immigration/guest worker program that lets both groups win. JMHO
