If you are saying don't replace the tank till it leaks is very bad advice. The tank can spring a small leak or a large one, just depends. Often, many never look at the tank or do any maintenance only to find a small leak occurred and now they have water damage in addition to replacing the tank to deal with. Since replacing the tank is relatively inexpensive, it doesn't make any sense not to change it every 10 years or so.
