You hit the nail on the head, we all have a different learning style, great teachers understand that, but, the physics and geometry of the golf swing require some things folks are unaware of.
I am sure your instructor was not a teaching professional??

What worked best for me was I played and struggled to keep it at the century mark, never broke that until I was finishing a degree and needed a Phy Ed credit, they had a golf class. It broke you down to the basics and it wasn't someone hovering over you, they got you started and walked around and gave you help when you needed it. This got me down to shoot in the 90's... All for the cost of one credit, $80 then and my company reimbursed me for it....
After that it was finding a pro that had a teaching style compatible. But you need to know your learning style...
