I see you are from Traverse City...one of my MOST favorite places. We're also from MI...Tawas Bay area. Bottle Brush trees and bushes are pretty hardy but if you drive around you'll see some of them are turning brown now on the tops...but they'll come back...not to worry. Another planting I'm wondering about is Bamboo. There are some nice looking bushes beside and behind Bacall Rec Center and they definitely survived the freezes we had. Actually, they're a little TOO big now (I think Bacall has been there less than 3 years) but I'm thinking you could plant less stalks???? Don't know but I gotta find out about these plants.
