25. Why is there always a crowd of people checking their mail?
24. Why do I get separate "yellow pages" phone books?
23. Why do classified ads continue to cost more?
22. Why did I rarely use them to begin with?
21. Modern technology has prevailed.
20. See 21.
19. This is a shame. Our planet/eco friendly society is slow in making a difference.
18. See 21.
17. The planet continues to evolve. Is this survival of the fittest?
16. They are still out there, but again - see 21.
15. Brought on by our own society. We let our kids do anything and then blame someone else when something happens to them.
14. See 21.
13. Digital and the use of modern editing equipment has made it easy to manipulate your images into whatever you want. See 21!
12. And this is a bad thing?
11. In today's multi-tasking world you must have choices! (We had a pin ball machine at our local bowling alley.)
10. Are there really milkmen still out there?
9. I am obviously using a keyboard to write this. I have a lot of pens but the ink dries up before I use it to write.
8. Another shame, I've seen them run and it is beautiful.
7. There goes the post office (#25), no checks, no mail.
6. See 21 - you can't get all those great sound effects from a little metal speaker.
5. Something I won't miss.
4. I know there are scientists working on this, even right here in this area. Unfortunately I have heard of little success in solving the problem.
3. Apathetic society?
2. See 21.
1. An example of why this is happening - government regulation has placed requirements on dairy farms that make it financially impossible to continue a small operation.

Think about this list for a minute. A lot of these things did not exist 100-150 years ago. The world is constantly changing and with that comes the demand for newer technology, better medicine, safer food, instant gratification, and different uses for our natural resources. Companies have changed their production models to meet those needs. They don't make VCR's, they make DVD players. (And are probably already making prototypes of the XYZ players of the future.) They no longer have to look for a cure for measles, they need to research cures for alzheimer's and work on bionic arms. The post office used to deliver letters, now the ads on television are for their Priority parcel service.

So, are these things becoming extinct a bad thing? My great-grandfather didn't know what a pay phone was, and neither will my great-grandson.
