I think it highlights one thing that should never be outlawed. Whatever system ends up in place, I can imagine the pitchfork and torch crowd getting justifiably riled up if suddenly it were illegal to pay for private care.

If, for some reason, you don't agree with your insurance company today, you're certainly allowed to go get anything done that you want, out of your own pocket. This was *illegal* in Quebec until recently (if the service in question was one provided by the provincial system).
