He DID, however, quote former nuns in the order and point out that when France passed legislation to force Mother Theresa's organization (and all charities) to open their books, they fled the country. Closed up shop and left. He DID point out that she had an unusual predilaection for taking joy in the act of suffering.
I am at odds with the stated belief that patients should suffer "to bring them close to the suffering Jesus christ did for us". They forbid family visits, among other things. This is very much akin to medieval beliefs that stated you became 'more pure' if you suffered (see items like self-flagellation).
Yet when Mother Theresa needed urgent care, she was flown by private jet to specialist - the exact kind of behavior that people are condemning in the case of the Premier of Newfoundland, indicting Canada's health care system.
So it's ok for Mother Theresa to be a hypocrite but not Newfoundland's Premier?
