I have backed up to a retention pond for 12 years and the view is terrific. It has never been an empty hole, or even close to being an empty hole. Some people kayak on it. While I have seen some retention pond that do not look good, suggesting that all of them will become an "empty hole" is just silly. Property Management maintains the level by opening the valve on the weir when the water level become too high. The water level variation is about 2 feet. Right now, I think the water is at a perfect level but a bit higher than Property Management would prefer (based on conversations with them). Based on the past, they will probably come out and lower it a bit in the next several days. They did bring it down a bit before last week's multi-day rain event.
