Any type of electrical wiring must terminate in a work box. So, I get that mess straightened out and now I am going to hang surface mount medicine cabinets above each sink. Get out the old trusty stud finder aaaand... The wall studs in the master bath are 24 inches on center behind the sink!! No way of mounting the cabinets without tearing the wall apart and putting addition studs in. As far as I know the standard for wall studs have always been 16 inches on center! To me this is just really cheap shortcuts being taken with the construction of our homes. Enough said.....

Studs are $4+/each these days. A standard plastic work box is about $1.50 & by the time it's installed & connected, it's probably $25+. A penny saved, is a penny earned, when you're doing production construction.
At 3000+ homes per year, the savings are huge.
