A few posts ago it was that Obama wants to "give amnesty to all illegals". Well, that tells me you didn't bother to read the proposal.

In order for an illegal to 'gain amnesty', they have to go through several steps INCLUDING PAYING A FINE.

Another post in another thread said "$24B to give everyone internet service" which was BLATANTLY false - it was to provide ACCESS to the service, just like we did with electricity and telephone service.

People scream that Obama's health care plan will cover illegal aliens - except only later mention that they'll have to break the law to get a fake ID card. It's like saying Obama wants to give everyone a Cadillac (they just have to steal it).

I just spent a large portion of last night in a long, sometimes passionate political discussion with some arch-Libertarians up in Wolfeboro NH. There was a lot of good discussion going on and the host was, to say the least, bedrock-firm in his beliefs about all the extra-Constitutional stuff the government does (he's big on the 14th Ammendment among others). I disagree with him on several point because he thinks that industry would come in and provide everything fairly - like we don't need the government to make the Interstate Highways system. Unfortunately, I didn't think of the appropriate response until today. He's very much a "state's rights" guy and insists that we are 50 sovereign nations. I told him to show me one New Hampshire embassy, anywhere in the world. Or one for any other state. But what I should have said was that we, as The United States, we much better off than a batch of 50 Balkanized bannana republics. It is our union that had made us strong.

The facts, on both sides, are getting lost in the screaming.
