Red ants are probably the biggest risk. I haven't seen any poisonous snakes here but I'm sure they exist here, especially around the ponds. I do have a very pretty black racer that lives somewhere around my house but it really prefers to run away if you get close. I would suggest you not walk your dog near the ponds since you never can tell if a gator might be there.

Be sure to keep current on flea/tick/heartworm medication. If you do get ticks, go to the vet for a tick collar -- it will get rid of them in no time flat. The pine straw loves to hide the ticks, so do your best to keep your dog out of them.
