Can't help you on the hulu part of your question...
But, on the QAM ... yes, you can get a few channels in HD right out of the cable connection in the wall with a QAM enabled television. The 4 major networks, PBS, and the 'lesser' networks (e.g. viacom); no ESPN, history, discovery, TNT, TBS, USA, etc though.
