Depends on what needs to be done. There are sites on the web that details how to repair your mac. If you are comfortable with that, If not, Apple Store is great place. If local, do they know mac? I have had what little work I needed done at the Apple Store. Have you checked with the local MAC group or MUG? They can offer some help.
