we own several homes which we occupy at different times of the year and have no problems doing so - because we have house watchers for each of them. when leaving any of them we shut off the water, leave the heat or ac at minimum levels, put the cable and phone 'on vacation' and either hold or forward the mail [depending on the length of our absence].
the key is to have reliable folks to watch your property and to have your list of repair people available for you to contact if a problem does develop [you should see the address book we travel with!]. we are fortunate to have our properties covered with great people.
