Yes, invoking Jesus is a hot button for me. Not for the reasons you might think.

Jesus taught two things relative to this in the book of Matthew:
First in Matthew 22-21 he taught us to ...“Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s” What this teaches us is that we are to obey the laws of the nation in which we reside or are visiting. While there are often reason to protest or disagree with the law, the responsibility falls on the individual. We need to live within the law or work to change it.
Second in Matthew 25 he taught us to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit the sick and so on. What most people tend to miss is this again is an individual responsibility. Paying your taxes and asking the government to do it does not fulfill your responsibility - this is simply rendering unto Caesar. Equally, putting money in the collection plate does not fulfill this responsibility. Passively sitting by and letting others do what needs to be done is not his way. You need to do it yourself.
If you want to help an illegal and his/her family, that is your business and between you and God so long as they have returned to where they live legally and start working to obtain legal entry to this country. Millions do it every year.
I will now leave any discussion of religion. The political forum already has enough to discuss.
