A pergola is an open-roofed structure designed to reduce the amount of direct sun exposure in a specific area. Usually horizontal slats which look like roof joists are mounted on a frame constructed on 8'-10' corner posts. Pergolas can be found at many of the neighborhood and country club pools in TV.

Unless you are certain that your pergola must be attached to your house, I'd suggest considering a free-standing kit which can be purchased on the internet or from some some stores. I purchased a 10'x10' pre-finished aluminum kit from a store in New York state and was able to transport it to TV in a minivan. I assembled the pergola on a cement pad in less than one day. It is a terrific centerpiece in my fenced-in side yard. It is maintenance free and cost a fraction of what any contractor would quote to build something similar on site.

Send me a pm and your email address if you'd like more details including a photo. Good luck!
