Deep water drilling in itself is a risky process but one that has been pretty much mandated by the left and environmental wackos.
A rig closer to the coast would have had the safety valve above water level instead of a mile down.
If they'd let us drill in places like Alaska we won't have these problems in the first place.

BP would much rather drill at 500 feet than 5000 if permitted to by the government which is cowed by the "environmentalist" demands to move the oil companies father off-shore. If drilled at 500 feet this would have been shut off almost immediately; but the same people who strong-armed the government, through a complicit judiciary, into moving the rigs father out as a better option are, I suspect, thrilled with the result of their actions. Show pictures of a few oil coated birds; release some pictures and tell sob stories of the people affected by the scum landing on our beaches and maybe you get to shut down the engine of democracy and accelerate the Socialist State that is the dream of these Progressive Anarchists who portray themselves as watchers of the environment.
