Ok just to make things clear I am a sci-fi nut. (also I am from Hawaii and am use to no plot martial arts movies with subtitles) That said I liked the movie; however it is no Sixth Sense. If you like special effects and martial arts movies you will like it but remember it is based on an animated TV series (Avatar) that was aimed at 7 to 10 year olds, that was on Nick for three years and very successful, so it doesn't have much depth. It is still aimed at kids (same as Harry Potter but less depth). It is classic good guys and bad guys with the teen age villain not wanting to be a villain but wanting to please his father and the prerequisite reluctant heroes. That is as deep as it goes. Also it really doesn't have an end. It is part one of a trilogy. But the cinematography is good and it pulls together several elements from Chinese folklore.
I would have waited for it to come out on DVD but then the 3-D effects would be lost.
Would I go see the sequel? Probably . Would I see it a second time? No (Saw the Avitar movie set in space three times)
