We also worked with an MLS agent who lives in TV and represented us as a "buyer's agent". If you do not ask for and get a signed "buyer's agent" agreement from your MLS agent, then he/she is not obligated to represent your interests only in the transaction.
That said, if you are considering the purchase of a resale, it makes sense to work with both a TV agent and an MLS Realtor (with a buyer's agent agreement). Otherwise, you will miss seeing a significant percentage of resales available.
