I have some problems with this too.
We have been in Iraq and Afghanistan trying to weed out the extremists and stablize both of these countries whose citizens are for the most part both predominately followers of the Islamic faith.
But, putting a mosque near the 9/11 ruins is like throwing gasoline on a fire of religious intolerance and bigotry.
I cannot see how this is a good idea at this time when emotions are still so strong even if it has been almost a decade.
There is a strong argument to be made for putting the mosque near the 9/11 World Trade Center site, but the argument is purely based on reason and seems detached from the heart. It is a good idea in terms of symbolism and bringing the faiths together but it is just that. It is just an idea.
