HOG charges you $55 for the class and Harley sends you a $50 gift certificate when completed. So it costs you only $5 as everyone has to spend at least $50 at the Harley store.
Anyway, they spend a full day training you to avoid problems. All done in a large parking lot with experienced trainers and a couple hours of classroom. How to swerve and react to something thrown in front of you, how to do an emergency stop both in a straight line and during a curve. How to spot potential problems using slides up for 1 second and testing your visual capability. Doing figure eights and pylon weaving. Testing your reaction time and several other safe riding techniques.
It improves you ability to be ready when something goes wrong. It reminds you of all the safe riding practices. It improves your riding skills. I take it every year and seem to always pick up some new tip to be a better rider. It may not help when someone turns directly in front of you, but just maybe this rider would have spotted the potential for a problem and adjusted his speed so he could have stopped or somehow missed the van.
I highly recommend this class to anyone who rides. It could save your life. And yes the class is available to you even if you ride a wannabee.

GREAT INFORMATION!
My husband rode for years and took all the courses. Nothing can stop an idiot from driving onto a highway with 700 plus bikers, who claims, not to have seen or heard them. Car and truck drives should be mandated to take safety courses for the safety of motorcycle riders.
