Last week all I heard when the discussion was around the mosque in NYC was that the people against it needed to learn tolerance. Even our ppresident said they had the right to build it, but it may not be the best wisdom to do so. The ACLU and our courts have all declared the burning of our flag as free speech, the protests of our fallen soldiers funerals by Westwood Baptist as free speech, burning of the bible as being OK etc etc. The problem is with us, we, as Americans, need to be tolerant. Why is this any different ? Doesn't seem to go both ways.
I don't agree with the burning of the Quran but I don't agree with the other actions I cited above either. However, like it or not, it is a right that is protected by our Constitution.
The more telling information coming out of this is the extent of hatred being shown towards this pastor, not only by Americans, but from the extremists we are at war with. Why aren't they tolerant and show an understanding of our Constitution ? It only seems to be understood when it benefits them.
