Maybe this is a mid-western tradition but certainly not New York where even if a deli isn't kosher, they at least try to be kosher-style?

I am a born New Yorker and so was my mother and we ALWAYS put butter on a turkey sandwich, as did lots of my friends.......NYC, Brooklyn, Staten Island! If you went to a Jewish deli, you got margarine........
