To the Klinefelters and Pturner--If you are planning to downsize (in terms of # of bedrooms) when you relocate, if possible clear out an entire bedroom at one time, do whatever repairs or other work is needed in that room, then finally shut it down (close door and close vent to room, this will reduce utility costs overall).
If you are both painting and replacing flooring, do the painting first, then replace the floor.
During the interim between the moves, if you have any more large items to unload, find a local classified ad paper (often found at local grocery stores) and run an ad there, or place on the local Craigslist. These places also list people wanting to buy items which may be of interest to you as well. In addition, always a good idea to donate unwanted items to charity (especially with year-end coming up for tax writeoffs).
Also go ahead and find a local real estate agent if you haven't already. S/he may be able to find contacts for people looking to buy your house around the time you're planning to move -- the quicker you can sell the better.
