From St. Charles you go west onto Tamarind Grove Run, then right onto Carriage Hill Drive and you come out the back gate onto CR 462. The gate is currently being used for construction. The Morse family was originally planning to leave the gate open to residents once the construction is completed but now they are having second thoughts.
I think it is equally possible that the road will not go through when houses are built on Carriage Hill Way. This plan of TV shows that Carriage Hill Way will end in a cul-de-sac: http://www.districtgov.org/yourdistr...es%20South.pdf Be patient. It's a large file and you will have to zoom in to see the detail.

The same cul-de-sac can be seen at mapquest.com

Obviously plans can change over time, but it's a very good possibility that the "short cut" is temporary and is simply being used to keep construction traffic off of St. Charles Place.

Time will tell.
