Coming from a dry climate, I have always keep a glass or bottle of water on my nightstand. It is as Coney said, the air indoors is very dry with the fan and air conditioning running. Right now, we've even got lower outdoor humidity. In addition to mouths feeling quite dry, nasal passages can dry out, also. A friend suggested a thin layer of Vaseline around the lower passages of your nose to help with that. It works.
