Default Had Vonage switched to Ooma.

We are not big time phone people who spend hours talking on the phone or use text messaging.

Vonage was great. I had the 500 minutes plan for $17.99 (around $24 with taxes). The number of features like caller ID, call forwarding, etc. is great. Quality was great. Only problem is that if your ISP goes down you do not have a phone. The best thing that they had was call-forwarding. It is cool to have someone call you at home and you get the call in Montana. Blows the caller's mind. We also use a pay-as-you-go phone from T-Mobile for road trips and for a back up phone if our VOiP goes down.

We switched to Ooma basically because it is FREE once you buy the modem. Pay back for us was 10 months because we used Vonage. If you have another service it could be a soon as 4 months. We have had no problems with it. Quality of the calls is good. It does not have all the features, particularly call-forwarding, that Vonage has but you can add those for $10 a month.

Both Ooma and Vonage require modems that you connect to high speed internet service. It is relatively simple to set up.
