My idea (this past September) was to rent a place for one month, spend a little time there ourselves but bring him (FIL) and his sister (age 89 - she's wonderful!) and have them stay 2 weeks and experience it. Would that be a good idea?

My husband and I like people; we have worked so much in our lives, we did not have all the friendships that our peers had but the social experience would be very important to us.

I agree with all. Only thing that I would add is make sure you have two golf carts.
