It only attacks the precancerous skin, so if you don't have any sun damage, it won't hurt at all or make any red spots. If you use it twice a day and get a lot of pain, go back to once a day or skip a day. Be sure to protect yourself from sun while you are using it. Mid-winter is the best time to do it since the sun is least intense now, and it's easier to stay covered when it's cool. I had a huge amount of sun damage and was pretty much a mess for several weeks, but was glad I did it. Husband is a doctor and gave me the instructions.
