The commercialism of Christmas is what kills the joy of the season. Thankfully, when I and my siblings were in our 20's, we all decided as a family to stop giving each other gifts. Instead, we looked forward to spending time together and with our parents. On Christmas Eve, we had lots of finger foods, sliced turkey & ham for sandwiches, watched movies, and attended midnight Mass. Afterward, we had another party and then slept in on Christmas morn. Well, that changed when my brother had children. We gave gifts Christmas morning to the little ones and that was fun, but we stuck with the tradition of not giving gifts to each other. I think it put the spirit of love and joy into the celebration, and I believe it was one of the best decisions our family ever made.
