I recommend you look into the Kimber Pepper Blaster II. It is not a spray that you can get on yourself and have to be close to the attacker to use.
It fits in the hand like a small gun and it has 2 shots of that can be fired at an attacker up to 10 - 12 feet away at a speed of 90 miles per hour. It is more potent than spray and can immobilize the attacker for 45 minutes. It is not an aerosol propellent so you will not lose power over time.
