Insurance ... normal fire and liability coverage. Hurricane (windstorm) coverage is required ... can be done as either a fixed deductible (recommended) or as a % deductible (e.g. you pay the equivalent of 3% of the insured value of your home as deductible before coverage kicks in.... on a $200K house this would $6K out of pocket).

Flood insurance is optional ... there are camps for and against it. You can search prior threads on TOTV.

Sinkhole insurance is handled differently by different carriers...some it is an add-on others it is included. Again, different camps on this but repairs can be extremely expensive and Sumter county is a high risk area. Also, check out deductible options.... fixed or % of home value.

All in all, for Florida, homeowners insurance rates here are reasonable.

Good luck with the move!!!

An additional point re: sinkhole coverage - Our insurance company requires an independent third-party inspection of the property prior to issuing the add-on sinkhole coverage. Many other companies, on the other hand, just issue the coverage without any inspections.

Congrats on your decision, too!!!
