It is against Florida law for any doctor to refuse to provide you with copies of your medical records (Florida Statutes, Section 456.057 (6)). I would go back to the doctors office or, better yet, write them a certified letter (return receipt requested) asking for your records, citing the above statutes. Tell them that if you don't have your records within 48 hours, you will file a complaint with the Florida Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance. You can file online or print off the forms to file a complaint by going to their website at
www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/index.html . Better yet, print off and complete the complaint form, include a copy with your letter, and let the doctor know you intend to submit if if you don't have your records within 48 hours. That should get them off bottom dead center.
