You could make up a very pretty looking basket and fill it with small things from: Michael's, The Dollar Store, Target. I've done that a time or two -- cleaning supplies for my friend who thinks cleaning is unhealthy; baby items for a friend who started going backwards on her age at 30; and so on. Another good spot is the toy department at Wal-Mart. The ugliest shirt ever seen is great for a clotheshorse (thrift stores usually are good for this). Make the theme fit the person and try to buy really, really cheap. I always added one thing I know they truly like -- tickets to a special event, a great bottle of wine .....
