If you would like to see a good display of flying, the Senior Soaring Championships will take place at Seminole Lake Gliderport March 13 to 19. The airstrip is 10 miles south of Groveland on highway 33 - east of 33 on South Fork Ranch Road. Pick a sunny day and take a lunch - the launch will take place between 11 am and 1 pm depending on the conditions - you'll see 60 gliders launched by 5 or 6 Pawnee towplanes in under an hour - that's one a minute! Of course, once they have launched it's about as exciting as watching paint dry - actually paint dries quicker - but the launch is pretty intense and exciting. Before the launch starts you will be able to look at the aircraft and most of the pilots are pretty friendly but once the launch starts you must stay off to the side of the runway.
