Default The Answer: Adopt; don't shop. Spay/Neuter.

Thank you, Katezbox, for highlighting this tragic situation.

Just as there are good people volunteering their time, gasoline and energy to transport dogs to safety, I'm sure there are evil-doers who have other plans for the dogs they pick up. Some sell them to medical labs, or to drug dealers who use the dogs to transport drugs by surgical implantation. There are people working now to create laws and guidelines for transport of animals.

About 8 million dogs enter shelters each year. Half of those -- 4 million -- are euthanized, thats one dog killed every 8 seconds.

A Solution Is Possible:
  • Everyone should spay or neuter their pets.
  • Adopting from a shelter will help stop puppymills and backyard breeders as there will no longer be a market for their products (puppies).

For every dog that suffers or is euthanized, there is a human being to blame. Don't be that person. Educate your friends, neighbors and family.

Watch this video regarding shelter animals. It's a little slow but watch to the end because it has a lot of good information:

Then watch this video about where pet stores get their puppies:
