There are baby rental places, but what we did was keep the mattress only from my kids' crib (I have moved this around the country I don't know how many times, and finally used it) for toddlers or up to about age 6, keep a pack n play in the attic .

I only have 2 grandchildren so far, but we have 3 more adult children, so who knows - and one of those strap-on-a-seat booster seats that has a tray. Work especially great on some bar stools - you can sit in a normal chair and feed a baby, or put it on a regular chair near the table (preferably on the lanai unless you have tile floors in your eating area.

We keep the crib mattress under the guest room bed, and the pack n play and booster seat in the attic above the garage. If it's difficult for you to access this, let the parents get it out. Sure has come in handy.

My daughter would probably be hesitant about rented stuff (germs) even though she's not all that fussy. We also keep a couple of bins of various age toys in the attic and the 3rd bedroom closet. Check out keva planks (online) for something different and totally engrossing for 5 yr olds and up - and even Grandpa.
