My wife recently received a solicitation letter for the captioned breast-cancer fund drive. After my wife had written a donation check, but luckily before it was mailed, I decided to look into what was going on.
This so-called "Villages Area" fund drive is put on by an Washington D.C. outfit that I never had heard of: The Walker Cancer Research Institute. According to Charity Navigator, that institute spends over 51% of its revenues on fund raising. See

Not a bad deal for the administrators and fund-raisers of the "Walker Cancer Research Institute". Not such a good deal for breast-cancer research. In any event, there is apparently no real connection to The Villages at all.
Needless to say, our check never made it to the mailbox.
