I would suggest that if this situation would ever occur again rather than feeling like you are being tailgated by the officer for 5 - 6 miles, use your turn signal and pull into a gas station or well lit public area. If the officer is interested in you and your vehicle he will turn with you and you can at least determine what the problem is. If he is not he will continue and you can return to the road.
