You can easily activate the outlets yourself if you know how to splice a cable. However, if Comcast catches you with outlets that they didn't activate, they will literally cut your connectors off (I know, sounds painful). I don't know what gives them the authority to do this since all the cable that runs into your home should belong to you... not the cable company. Nevertheless, they did it to me. Plugging a cable ready TV to a cable outlet that hasn't been activated will not get you a signal.

I believe this is the old comcast. With Xfinity now you get a signal in each outlet but to get anything more than a few basic channels you have to rent a box for each television set. This can be basic, HD, DVR. You can get on demand features as well.
