Trump has managed to run more casinos into bankruptcy than anyone I've ever heard of. In fact, Trump makes it look like bankruptcy is, to him, considered a tool of growing a business (start company, borrow heavily to build company, declare bankruptcy to screw your creditors and keep assets, later, rinse, repeat)

Trump was in favor of a LOT of things that are anathema to the GOP and Tea Party members. That is, UNTIL he saw a void that he could fill. He changed his colors like a chameleon.
Of course you're right in your description of the person who is Donald Trump, in my opinion. The question that is most interesting to me, though, is why is he resonating with so many people right now?

The answer, I believe, is he's speaking to the frustration and anger and fear of the future of our country and our way of life in a manner that so many have been yearning for.

There are only a few politicians on the scene right now who come close, but don't have Trump's megaphone or don't choose to jump in the pool at this time. The two that come to mind is the fearless conservatism displayed by Florida Rep. Alan West and the unflinching fiscal leadership qualities of N.J. Governor Chris Christie.

Trump, right now, is the only potential presidential aspirant who is basically telling the people he will dive into the mess we're in and fix what's wrong come hell or high water. Everyone is getting tired of hearing that we have to compromise and negotiate and find some middle ground in order to get even tiny changes made.

People want action and Trump is the only one on the scene right now promising that. There's a lot to learn from this.
