You've hit the nail on the head in your view that the GOP base won't be enthralled with a Romney candidacy in the primaries. He's kind of a "McCain light", and God knows we've had our fill of that.
But, if he were to gain the nomination, and with all the animosity and outrage over what Obama has done to our once great nation, he will win in a landslide of Reagan proportions.
Perry would win as well. The country is (I know you don't want to hear this, and don't want to believe this) is primarily conservative.
