Default Just What We Need...Not!

Y'know, this kind of stuff is exactly why the founders established that the Chairman of the Federal Reserve bank has a term of office that is staggered from the president who appoints him. And why there are all kinds of safeguards to keep the central bank independent from the politicians.

I think the president's press secretary was spot on when he responded that people who are president or who are campaigning for president shouldn't criticize the country's central bank and it's head. If Perry were to be elected, he'll have a chance to appoint a new Fed chairman one year after his inauguration. He can recommend a new chairman, but the Congress must ratify his choice. Then once appointed, none of the politicians can influence his actions or judgements.

That's the way central banks are run...and should be run. Think of what people around the world, leaders of other countries, people in the business community, think when a cowboy from Texas runs off at the mouth like this. If his conduct is what the Tea Party stands for, his conduct acceptable among them, I know damn well I won't vote for such irresponsible people running the financial affairs of this country. They've already done irreparable damage and accomplished next to nothing with their conduct during the debt ceiling negotiations. Now this guy, reported to be their front runner form the GOP candidacy, flaps his mouth like a schoolyard bully. Geez, just what we need running the country!

And yes, I agree that President Obama's comments at Arizona State University were inappropriate, as well, however humorously they were intended. But they surely don't rise to the level of irresponsibility and acrimony demonstrated by Perry in accusing the chairman of the Federal Reserve of treachery and treason.

This is the guy you want to choose the most powerful and influential person that influences our economy on virtually a day-to-day basis? This is the person you want to be speaking to the rest of the world with regard to our economy? His stupid and ill-conceived comments might play well in west Texas or among those who make their political judgements based on soundbites. But those that give statements like this just a little thought recognize the dangerous fallacy in this kind of thinking.
