I've had a lot more outages with cable than with DirecTV. And when cable goes out, it's for hours at a time. DirecTV outages are only for a few minutes in heavy rain. Even then, you can usually still get a SD signal and you can still access on demand programming. Plus you can watch all those programs that you recorded previously.
