Retired Reservists are eligible for Tricare. The retiree benefits are not any different for service members that are retired. They receive their benefits at the age 60 while active duty personnel get them after 20 years and they retire.

They can choose from the options that are available to them. Tricare Prime, Standard/Extra or if on Medicare Tricare for Life as a supplemental. Tricare Prime is more like a HMO and Standard/Extra is like a PPO.

I switched over from Blue Cross Blue Shield last year and have had no problem at all with Tricare, not to counting the approx $9,000.00 a year in savings.
